For or those who seek out the help of a personal trainer, it is very important that you don’t hire someone who is not qualified or someone who is least concerned about their client’s well being. When you pay for something you want the best for that money you paid. But how to know that your personal trainer is qualified and is he worth the money you paid for him. Here are some things to look for while hiring a personal trainer.
Beware Of The Personal Trainers That:
- Says that women should not lift weights. I won’t discuss about this in detail but weight training is equally important for women as much as for men. But if a trainer tells women not to lift weights you should dump that trainer immediately!
- Cut your calories to a dangerous level or starvation is the only way to lose weight. It is true that you should cut your calories, but that doesn’t mean to cut calories to a dangerous level. Starvation is not a healthy way to lose weight. Consult your doctor or nutritionist and get your BMR checked and seek advice from them.
- Won’t track your progress. Personal training doesn’t mean just to stand beside you and counting repetitions. I have seen trainers in the best gyms as well who don’t track their client’s progress. A trainer should carry a log book and note all the exercises, repetitions, sets etc. for every workout.
- Force you to buy supplements. I have seen many trainers who force their clients to buy supplements. At times they do this to up sell these items. A recommendation is good but a trainer should not force anyone to buy supplements.
- Daydreaming or busy on cell phone while training you. A personal trainer should not daydream or chit chatting on cell phone while spotting you. A trainer should focus on the posture and form of their clients.
- Push you too hard. Most people think that the trainer who pushes them too hard is a good trainer. A trainer should motivate you but that doesn’t mean he should push you beyond your limits. I have seen some trainers doing so just for the sake that their clients gets pain after the workout and thinks that the trainer did a good job.
Tips For Hiring A Personal Trainer:
- You can ask for a free session before buying a package
- Check certifications. Some good ones are ISSA,NASM,ACE and ACSM.
- Ask for referrals from friends and family or your gym mates about the trainer.
- Check references.
